The housing estate surrounding Ernst-Thälmann-Park was built in 1986 as a showpiece for the conception of “socialist living”.
The building complex is built with concrete sections with over 1300 flats for 4000 residents, parks with ponds and play areas for children, an indoor swimming pool and the buildings of a former gas work.

many times there during the summer of 2020. I was just lying on the grass, drinking a bottle
of beer alone and obsessed with the brutalist texture and its historical heritage. At sunset, I
always saw the airplanes flying overhead, with a long, red vapour trail followed behind.”
